Dell EMC announced the availability of Dell EMC hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) appliances on its PowerEdge 14th generation servers.
“Customers are increasingly turning to hyper-converged infrastructure as a foundation for simplifying IT for today and the future,” said Chad Sakac, president, converged platforms and solutions division, Dell EMC. “With HCI designed as a software-defined infrastructure, achieving ultimate performance and reliability relies on tightly engineered software with optimal hardware and configurations. With Dell EMC’s turnkey, pre-integrated, tested and validated HCI appliances, customers can simply scale their IT infrastructure to meet their demands.”
According to IDC, HCI is the fastest growing converged infrastructure segment, with worldwide revenue growing 48.5% year-on-year (y-o-y) in 2Q17. It accounts for nearly 25% of overall converged infrastructure solutions sold.
Dell EMC leads in global HCI system sales with 29% of all Q2 segment revenue, and a 149% revenue growth y-o-y. Its VxTail is one of the fastest growing HCI appliances worldwide, with 275% revenue growth y-o-y.
Dell EMC PowerEdge 14th generation servers, based on Intel Xeon, include 150 customisations for software-defined storage (SDS) built-in. This includes improved support for SSDs in scale-out deployments; faster initialisation and streamlined data storage management; increased drive cooling; and optional common user interfaces across server and HCI platforms.
The upgraded Dell EMC HCI appliance portfolio offers faster access to applications and data, thanks to higher core counts, faster clock frequency, more memory channels, and faster memory, resulting in up to 1.7x more processing power and up to 62% higher internal bandwidth, Dell EMC said.
Dell EMC HCI appliances include VxRail, powered by VMware vSAN, and XC Series, which supports multi-hypervisor environments.
Dell EMC VxRail Appliances on Dell EMC PowerEdge 14th generation servers will be available from 12 December 2017; Dell EMC XC models XC640, XC740xd and XC740 on PowerEdge 14th gen are already available.
