Canon Marketing launches two commercial digital printer lines

0

Canon Marketing (Malaysia) launched two digital printer ranges to meet the changing needs of the commercial printing industry. The ImagePRESS C-series prints in colour while the third-generation varioPRINT DP Line series prints in black-and-white.

The commercial printing industry has traditionally been dominated by offset printers. Offset printing benefits large volumes of printing or “long runs” due to the cost of pre-press processing such as colour separation and printing plates.

Digital printing on laser and inkjet printers or photocopiers can print small quantities quickly but are limited by the media sizes and type as well as cost. Commercial digital printers can address these issues.

“There are two broad trends today: the way people shop and do things, which is driven by new technology; and the bespoke trend, which is driven by customers who want to be different and want customised products,” said Andrew Koh, president and CEO, Canon Marketing (Malaysia).

Print jobs are becoming more complex due to users wanting to customise their documents, added Albert Mah, head of PPP division, Canon Marketing (Malaysia). “Print service providers (PSPs) need their production environments to be flexible, efficient and productive enough to meet these demands.”

“Cafés may want to change their menu often and regularly but they require only small print volumes. Instead of using plain photocopied sheets, they can print high-quality professional-looking menus with the imagePRESS,” Koh said.

To demonstrate this point, Canon spruced up its pantry area to resemble a modern café with every collateral printed using the new printers, from placemats to wallpaper.

Digital technology is changing the competitive landscape of the commercial printing market and companies who fall behind in the shift to digital printing are at risk.

Canon understands that every business and every print room is different and has different needs, Koh explained. Hence in 2017, Canon’s 30th year in Malaysia, the company has been releasing new printing products such as printers and multi-function printers. The new commercial printers fill another need in the market.

“Canon’s Professional Printing Products (PPP) division is built for business and provides new levels of quality and production in both colour and black-and-white production,” he said.

The imagePRESS C-series is targeted at commercial PSPs and corporate reprographic departments with monthly production volumes of up to 170,000 A4 pages.

The C850 is capable of duplex printing banners, printing on standard-sized envelopes, textured substrates and substrates from 52 to 300gsm.

The series uses an enhanced laser and new 190lpi dot screening pattern for high-quality printing. It can achieve accurate media registration in five minutes with a semi-automatic, single-page registration technology.

The varioPRINT DP Line series is aimed at PSPs with high monochrome workloads, with a capability to produce peak volumes up to 2.2 million letter/A4-sized images per month.

It offers a full-range of in-line finishing and output options, such as stapling, saddle stitching, folding, die-punching, inserting, ring binding and high-capacity stacking, to automate the production of most print products.

It delivers offset-like print quality with sharp lines, halftone uniformity and smooth gradations through its ScreenPoint Technology’s SuperCell rasterisation. Its DirectPress Technology eliminates quality degradation by working in a single, stable digital process unaffected by light, static charge, temperature and humidity.

Both the imagePRESS and varioPRINT can be managed via Canon’s PRISMAprepare pre-press software. A print job with colour and black-and-white pages can be automatically routed to the respective printers for cost and time efficiency.

The two ranges also work with PRISMAsync Remote Control app which can send real-time notifications of upcoming operational actions – such as loading media or adding consumables – to a smartphone or tablet.
